I am currently working on a knitting project which is very close to my heart, when I was little my dad used to take us to see Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and I've always had a fondness for amusing plays and musicals. So this month my sock club came around with a truely awesome sock... it is modeled on a song from G&S's Iolanthe.
The design is modeled after the Lord Chancellor's robes (black and gold) and aspects of the design refers to the song that he sings about his nightmare... with of course a knitterly pun... clocks on socks (like fox on box) are the little cables that run down the side of the ankle but in this design the little cables are actually clocks!
So I finished one sock this weekend while watching the Stratford festival recordings of Iolanthe, HMS Pinafore and of course the Pirates of Penzance!
Oh I've also been knitting some other things...

Seriously Rowan, how do you wear shoes with those socks - I don't think I could ever cover them up!! The coral ones are so beautiful. And how the heck in the world did you knit those wee clocks into the LCN pair? Unreal. And the hand bag is lovely - I've been thinking of crocheting one, but kind of sitting on the fence...no longer! I am totally inspired! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNow Jason...how's the Fishermen's Sweater coming along? We're waiting eagerly to see the finished product! (Is that enough incentive to get it finished? Hee!)
Hey Angela,
ReplyDeleteActually a lot of my fancier socks never get worn with shoes... or if they do it's only for a quick walk to someone's house where I can quickly take them off again.
The wee little clocks are done at the end with gold thread embroidery :)
Ohhh post pictures of finished hand bag! I like making bags, fun and useful, and usually pretty quick!
Rowan, you are an amazing knitter! Thanks for sharing the photos.
